Knock Down, Re-Build
As part of our continuous approach to improving homes, CCHA is carrying out knock down re-builds on some of our properties. CCHA are working with Tony G Harris & Sons Building Contractors Ltd (who have over 10 years experience on these particular types of projects) and lead consultants Grove Associate Architects and Marks Davis Partnership.
Works started on 22 Ruby Street in February and re-housing of the existing tenant is planned for June 2010. Property Team staff are currently liaising with our tenants regarding final choices and finishes which will be incorporated in their new home.

The property currently being up-graded is 27 Sapphire Street, which started in March and is due for handover in August. Property staff will be co-ordinating the final choices and handover back to the existing tenant in the next few weeks.

Review of Physical Adaption Service Is Complete
In the summer edition of CHAT in 2009 we told you of a new service we were offering to tenants offered by Cardiff Accessible Homes (CAH). CCHA is responsible for hosting and managing CAH on behalf of all the Housing Associations and the Council in Cardiff. Since April 2009 Cardiff Accessible Homes (CAH) have managed the assessments completed by Occupational Therapists required by Housing Association tenants to have disabled adaptations installed in their homes.
In the first year, CAH received a total of 384 referrals for adaptations from its partner organisations for this service. Of the 384 referrals received 75 of these referrals were for CCHA tenants.
As a result, CAH were able to complete 12 stair-lifts, 38 level access showers and 25 ramping and/or access improvements for CCHA tenants alone. We can also report the good news that the average wait for an Occupational Therapist was 45 days. (This compares to an average wait of 180 days prior to CAH managing the assessments).
We are very pleased with progress to date and have agreed to continue with this arrangement with all our partners for another twelve months.
If you feel you would benefit from adaptations such as a level access shower, stair-lift, ramping, accessing improvements you can contact the number below to speak to a member of staff who will be happy to discuss the options and arrange an Occupational Therapist to visit you at your property to carry out an assessment.
