AGM 2008: Thank you to you all for making It a success

We held our AGM this year on 16th July 2008 at St Peter’s Church Hall in Plasnewydd.  It was well attended by tenants, staff and consultants.  Overall around 80 guests came along to the event; just over half of whom were CCHA tenants. Tenants who were not share holders were invited along for the second year running. Everbody who attended seemed to have a good time.  About 30 of CCHA’s staff gave up their time to help out on the night

The feedback one tenant summed up the feelings of many which  was that they’d had: “a cracking time”.   One guest said that, “I was so pleased to come to your AGM and I did enjoy it.  I have to say yours was one of the nicest AGM’s I have attended”.

We are grateful to everybody who made it such a success.  We want to say a particular thank you to:-

  • Our shareholders, who continue to support the Association year in, year out
  • Roger Royle who did an excellent job as our guest speaker seemed to enjoy the event so much he praised the evening on his, “Pause for thought slot” on the Wogan Show on Radio 2
  • Members of the TRC who attended in force and displayed a stand highlighting the good working they do throughout the year
  • Our Staff who turned out in force and played an active part in the evening

This year the AGM was brought forward by two months and allowed the Board and Senior Team to propose both the Annual Accounts and Report to the shareholders - both of which were passed unopposed.

As a result, it was too early to judge our Annual Gardening Competition.  The competition was judged at the end of July and the results will appear in the next edtion of CHAT.

Maximising Independence Casework Service and Safety at Home Service Launched

New C&R Logo.JPG

Cardiff County  Council in partnership with Care & Repair Cardiff have recently launched two services aimed at supporting vulnerable people to maintain their independence or improve safety within their homes.

The Maximising Independence Casework Service aims to help vulnerable people and their carers to access the advice and support they need to enable them to live as independently as possible in their own homes. The Agency’s Caseworker team will visit a person in their own home and will listen to what they want and need. The Caseworker will then provide advice on possible solutions to low/moderate care needs, such as assistance to resolve minor repairs, help with daily living activities or welfare benefit advice.

The Safety at Home Service aims to help older or disabled people to adapt their homes to make them safer places to live. The scheme is at the heart of ensuring that the most vulnerable can remain safe and comfortable in their own homes and that physical barriers to a normal life are removed. The service enables minor adaptations such as grab rails and hand rails and other safety works to be completed quickly in or around a person’s own home.

Councillor Judith Woodman, Deputy Leader for Cardiff County Council and Older Person’s Champion, said: “We are constantly looking to improve the range of services we provide to older or disabled people by developing tailor made solutions to address specific local needs and priorities.

''These partnership schemes offer tremendous scope to provide assistance to vulnerable people as part of the Council’s proactive approach to improving service delivery.”

Wendy Bourton, Care & Repair Cymru’s Chief Executive said:  “Sometimes a serious injury can be prevented by quite small changes such as by installing a grab-rail, replacing a dim light-bulb over the stairway with a brighter one or by securing loose carpet edges. There is a Care & Repair Agency in every County in Wales, all working to help older people stay safe, warm and secure in their homes.
