How Can I Get Involved?

As Individual Tenants

We encourage all tenants to be involved in our work to the extent that you can give your time.

Many opportunities are available to you, for example:

  • Our CHAT Newsletter is sent out four times per year and encourages you to reply or even to write articles
  • We have consultations prior to changes in housing policies
  • There is a survey of all tenants every two years
  • Area-based meetings and mini-surveys take place for local or specialist issues
  • There is regular communication with staff
  • You can become a member of CCHA as a Shareholder
  • You can participate in our project groups – especially for Best Value service reviews

Involvement In Groups

We recognise and support a range of types of tenants’ organisations including:

  • Tenants’ Associations. That are open to all tenants in an area or interest group, have a constitution and are run by the tenants themselves. We currently have several recognised tenants associations who represent a wide variety of our tenants. We have a system of recognition so that we can be sure that associations do properly represent people. We ask tenants’ associations to have a constitution, to recruit at least a minimum number of tenants into membership, to be open and fair in the way they work and to be committed to signing a Compact and a code of conduct with us.
  • Focus Groups. Small meetings of tenants whom we have invited to give us their opinions and advice about particular topics. These are an opportunity for tenants who have knowledge and interest in some services but are unable or unwilling to take on the longer-term commitment of a tenants’ association. We expect these to be a part of many of our service reviews.
  • Tenants’ Groups. These fall between tenants’ associations and focus groups. The group controls its own membership and they can work very informally. We recognise and support these groups when they deal with issues that are relevant to our services and if it is not appropriate to expect a tenants’ association to be formed.

For all of these opportunities (individual and group) we are particularly keen to involve more, younger tenants and minority ethnic people in the community.
